Great show - poor energy, commitment in key roles
The production design and music were excellent, with one or two outstanding cast members such as the actress in the role of Rafiki who was amazing. Almost everyone will know that the story and songs are great. However, some key performances were appalling, especially the role of Scar which is pivotal to the progression of the story - they were robotic, displayed boredom, and showed a complete disrespect for the 3000 audience who had paid an average of over $100 per seat. My wife and I left feeling we'd been duped into expecting a first-rate, professional production and had an uncomfortable feeling that we'd had our pockets picked. My two youngest kids, 8 and 11, had a wonderful time as they love the material and characters. However, my 15-year-old, who has loved this show since she first saw it 10 years ago, was disappointed.
